| A quick synopsis of what I've been
up to... I was married for 25 years... divorced in 1986. My son,
David and his wife, live in Portland and have blessed me with two
wonderful grandsons. My daughter, Lyric, recently returned from
living in New Zealand and now is also in Portland. I have been living in the Seattle area since 1965. Marriage cut short my college education, so I returned to school in 1980. Eventually, I attended seminary and was ordained as a Presbyterian pastor in 1993. It was my joy to serve as one of the pastors at Lake Burien Presbyterian Church, south of Seattle, for over eight years. Then, for four years, I served as the Western staff person for our denomination's Self-Development of People ministry. I traveled throughout the Western states talking with low-income groups who might qualify for the self-help grants that SDOP makes. It was fun and rewarding work. Now, I refer to myself as “technically retired.” I’ve done several short-term pastorates since I “retired,” and am currently a parish associate at a church in Seattle. That gives me opportunities to preach, teach, lead workshops, and so on. Another job I enjoy is serving as the liaison between Seattle Presbytery and our students enrolled in the seminary program at Seattle University. That school is very special to me because I did some advanced training in pastoral ministry there, and I am currently facilitating a lively theological discussion group each month. Life is good! |
